4.1-magnitude earthquake hits Goesan County
A 4.1-magnitude earthquake struck Goesan County in North Chungcheong on Saturday morning. People living in the area felt the tremor, but no injuries or property damage have been reported.
The 4.1-magnitude earthquake struck Goesan County at around 8:27 a.m. on Saturday, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration. The quake, the largest recorded in Korea this year, came immediately after a 3.5-magnitude quake was recorded in the same area.
Goesan County is located about 60 miles southeast from Seoul, with around 37,000 residents.
Saturday’s earthquake marked the first time this year that a quake over 4.0-magnitude has been recorded in Korea. A 4.9-magnitude quake was recorded off the coast of Jeju Island on Dec. 14 last year.
There were no immediate reports on casualties or injuries related to the quake, according to the local fire department.
