Blackpink chosen as Time Magazine’s 2022 Entertainer of the Year
Girl group Blackpink has been chosen as Time Magazine’s 2022 Entertainer of the Year.
This is the first time for a K-pop girl group to be given the title by the American news magazine, according to Blackpink’s agency YG Entertainment on Tuesday.
Boy band BTS landed the same title in 2018.
In the article published Dec. 5, Time describes Blackpink as “the biggest girl group in the world.”
“Blackpink will continue to play its role as a trendsetting icon, not only in music, but also in beauty, fashion, and other industries.”
The quartet — Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa — has been setting new records with its latest full-length album “Born Pink” and its lead track “Shut Down.” In November, Blackpink became the first female K-pop act to top the Billboard 200 albums chart.
The group recently concluded the North American leg of its tour on Nov. 20 at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles.
Blackpink will continue its world tour in seven cities in Europe through December. Next year, Blackpink will tour Asia and Oceania, ultimately meeting with some 1.5 million global fans, according to YG Entertainment.
