Dejected nurses
Nurses leave the National Assembly in disappointment after the Nursing Act, which had been vetoed by President Yoon Suk Yeol earlier, failed to secure the necessary two-thirds support from legislators to be enacted on Tuesday. Nurses had argued for the need to allow them to provide independent medical services, especially to older adults. Doctors strongly opposed the legislation, however, warning that it would lead to unsupervised medical practices by nurses. Other medical professionals including nursing assistants expressed concern that their jobs would be lost if the Nursing Act went into effect. [YONHAP]
