Netflix creating documentary on director Bong Joon-ho’s early 20s
Netflix is creating a documentary centering on director Bong Joon-ho’s life from his 20s, the streaming platform said Friday.
Titled “Yellow Door: Looking for Director Bong’s Unreleased Short Film” (working title), the documentary will focus on the Oscar-winning director’s first short film “Looking For Paradise” from 1992, which has never been officially released.
The film was made when Bong was in university, and screened only once for the members of the film club he was in, which was called “Yellow Door.”
Director Lee Hyuk-rae, who was also a member of Yellow Door, will take the helm of the documentary. It will be released on the streaming platform sometime in 2023.
Bong made history at the Academy Awards in 2020 when his film “Parasite,” starring actor Song Kang-ho, became the first non-English language movie to win best picture. The acclaimed film also won awards for best original screenplay, director and international feature.
