North Korea fires ballistic missile into the East Sea
North Korea fired a ballistic missile toward the East Sea on Wednesday, the South Korean military said.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) announced the launch without providing further details.
President Yoon Suk-yeol called an emergency meeting of the National Security Council following the missile launch, his office said.
The missile flew toward the eastern South Korean island of Ulleung before crashing into international waters in the East Sea, according to the South’s military.
South Korea and the United States on Monday began five days of large-scale combined air drills.
