One dead after truck crashes into preschool bus Tuesday morning
A five-ton truck crashed into a preschool bus in a village in Changnyeong, South Gyeongsang on Tuesday morning, leaving one dead.
The truck ran into the school bus, which was waiting for the traffic signal at 10:24 a.m., according to the Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Fire Headquarters and the Changnyeong Police Precinct.
The driver of the preschool bus was killed.
A total of fifteen people were on the school bus, including the principal of the preschool, a teacher and 12 children aged four to five.
Most of the passengers suffered only minor injuries but two were treated for a fractured leg and a head injury.
“The shock from the crash was big as the bus was pushed forward when the truck hit it and was damaged,” said the police. “But there weren’t major injuries excluding the school bus driver as everyone was wearing a seat belt.”
The truck driver suffered minor injuries. Police are investigating the exact cause of the accident but suspect the driver may have fallen asleep behind the wheel.
