‘Profoundly sorry’
Liberal activists hold a candlelight vigil near City Hall in central Seoul Saturday to commemorate the 156 victims of the Itaewon tragedy on Oct. 29 and demand accountability from the government. Some protesters called for President Yoon Suk-yeol to resign. The national mourning period ended on Saturday, and more than 117,000 people paid respects at mourning altars in Seoul for the victims. President Yoon paid his respects at altars for the victims daily through the mourning period and said he was “profoundly sorry” during a Buddhist memorial service Friday. [YONHAP]
