Bangladeshi chemist Abu Kowsir spent $5,000 preparing to support his chosen team at the 2022 Qatar World Cup with a 3.5-kilometer (2.2-mile) banner of flags that spans the distance between his village and the next in Bancharampur, Bangladesh. But Kowsir isn’t rooting for tournament favorites like Brazil or Argentina, his team of choice is Korea.

방글라데시에 사는 화학자 아부 코우시르씨가 2022년 월드컵에서 가장 응원하는 팀은 다름 아닌 대한민국 축구 대표팀이다. 그는 사비 오천 달러를 써가며 그의 마을과 방글라데시의 반차람푸르 사이의 3.5 킬로미터에 이르는 거리에 태극기를 이어 달았다.

According to an AFP interview, Kowsir spent 15 years living and working in Korea as a migrant worker and fell in love with the country. As a sign of his appreciation for the country he says gave him so much, Kowsir and his wife Sabina decided to go all-out to show their support for the Taeguk Warriors this year.

AFP 통신에 따르면 코우시르씨는 한국에서 15년간 이주노동자로 일하면서 한국이라는 나라를 사랑하게 되었다고 한다. 코우시르씨의 말에 따르면 자신에게 많은 것을 베풀어준 나라에 대한 애정과 감사의 표시로 그의 아내 사비나와 함께 월드컵에 나선 태극 전사들을 전격 지지하기로 했다고 한다.
