An event led by Koreans that supports difficult areas in need of social attention while sponsoring talented individuals in music has once again garnered significant interest this year.
The 9th annual charity dinner concert by Ambrose & Matilda took place on the 6th (Saturday) from 4:30 PM at Point Grey Golf Club, with the generous support of numerous benefactors.
Prominent Korean figures including Yonah Martin(Conservative Canadian Senator from British Columbia), Jongho Kyun(Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Vancouver), Honorary Consul Byeong-gil Seo(Honorary Consul of Bulgaria), and Professor Kyung-ae Park from UBC, as well as representatives from Tom Lee, Vancouver Academy of Music, Chopin Society, and Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra, attended the event.
The charitable music event, organized by Ambrose Matilda Music Connection (AMMC), a nonprofit organization that has been donating to social enterprises, began with the 1st dinner concert in 2014 for Development and Peace Canada, a global relief organization.
Each year, the event invites promising young musicians in the field of classical music, providing them with an opportunity to perform in an elegant concert and receive support.
The charity dinner concert, which has been held for 7 years, was temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, Ambrose Choi, the representative of AMMC who led the event, faced deeper difficulties after suddenly gaining fame in 2021. However, his family continued his legacy, and the event was carried on, celebrating its 9th year this year.
Furthermore, it has expanded to discover young musical talents through the International Music Competition. At this year’s event, Seon-gu Kang, the winner of the 2022 AMMC International Music Competition, and Charles Yeung, the second-place winner, delivered outstanding performances.
AMMC is currently recruiting participants for the 2023 AMMC International Music Competition until June 25th. Judging will take place from July 1st to 15th. This year’s winners will have the opportunity to perform at the Winner Concert in September, which will be held at the Grand Intercontinental Hotel in Gangnam, in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Korea-Canada diplomatic relations.
The special benefits for this year’s competition winners include a masterclass opportunity at the Korea National University of Arts (K-Arts) and membership registration with Ambrose.
Meanwhile, AMMC is accepting membership registrations and sponsorships on their website (ammc.co.kr). Kim Min-jeong, the representative of AMMC, said, “In line with Ambrose Choi’s spirit, who aimed to communicate with the world through language as well as music, we are preparing for the 2023 Korea-Canada 60th Anniversary English Speaking Contest. We ask for your great interest in this competition, which seeks to serve as a bridge to help the younger generation embrace a larger dream and actively face the future.”
