If you’re a golf enthusiast who’d like to perfect your golf swing, look no further than Vancouver Golf Academy (VGA) in Coquitlam. The sports industry has ever been more advanced, applying data and technology to help athletes train better and this Vancouver golf studio does just that.
Sungsan Oh, the company’s CEO, talks about how they help players level up their game thanks to developing technology. Oh also discusses how a deeper understanding of physics and the use of simulators makes for better golfers.
Building VGA: Home for Golf Players
Oh, as a member of the Canadian professional golf association (PGA), recalled his early days of learning to play golf. Although he had a coach in the beginning, he spent a lot of the time on his own and learning by observing other people. The experience made him wish for better structured training facilities that could cater to his needs.
That’s when Oh started thinking about VGA (located at Unit 100 – 641 Lougheed Highway,
Coquitlam, BC Canada V3K 3S5), hoping to provide training to people’s individual needs and wants.
“For beginners, learning golf may be hitting the balls and hoping for the best kind of thing,” he said. “It’s always kind of a guessing game when you don’t have the data.”
Oh recognized the lack of golf training facilities that use data and technology to provide the best for their students and athletes.
“We really want to bring in the data part of this sport and combine it with the training. Now, we can provide [that for] our students and that’s basically the core value of Vancouver Golf Academy where we provide a training facility where they can train with data,” Oh explained. “Data is the key to helping players achieve what they want to achieve and VGA has all the data needed for that.”
The premium screen golf simulators at VGA provide detailed information for all beginners and advanced players. Built with a combination of high-speed light sensor and camera sensor, the simulator displays all measurements such as the direction and speed of a ball, hitting point, launch angle, and carry distance for both left and right-handed users.
It’s the kind of essential information for the players who want to know about the type of ball to use and the best club appropriate for a certain field. Users will also have the data on hand to compare their club swing from before.
And VGA is more than just a training facility for beginners.
