Dongyang Gojupa is going on a North American tour across the United States and Canada from July 6th to the 22nd. Formed in 2018, Dongyang Gojupa is a progressive rock band consisting of a yanggeum player, percussion, and bass. Their music brings together various elements such as Korean traditional music, psychedelic, hard rock, and metal. In South Korea, they have performed in Hongdae Clubs, Naver On Stage, and the Pentaport Rock Festival, in addition to being invited to various overseas festivals such as WOMEX (Portugal), WOMAD (Chile), and K Music Festival (UK). Notably, they were invited to the WOMEX stage for two consecutive years in 2021 and 2022, the first Asian band to have such an honor. The tour starts with the Winnipeg Folk Festival in Canada from July 6th to the 8th, after which is the Vancouver Island Music Festival from the 14th to the 16th, the Lincoln (USA) on the 21st, and then back in Canada on the 22nd for the Mission Folk Festival. The band is especially excited to perform at the Lincoln Center in New York City, being that it is a world-class concert hall and iconic US venue. Yoon Eun-hwa, the yanggeum player, expressed confidence in the tour, saying, “This is a great opportunity to share the music of Dongyang Gojupa with North America, and I will do my best to prepare and put on a wonderful performance.”
As summer heats up, Dongyang Gojupa is going to burn ever more brightly this July.
